This book was amazing!

I was expecting a lot of similarities to Victoria's story (the first Gardella series) and was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the whole story was different. The only similarities are the amazing characters. Man, it is like you want to get to know them and be their friend.

The book begins with Sebastian (can we ask for more?) clarifying who the bad guys are and that the protagonist is in danger.
Just like in the first Gardella series, it begins with the dreams. Mmm! And Macey does not know what to do with that. She has no family around, no aunt to guide her...
I liked very much that once she finds out about the world of vampires, she takes her time to think about it. She does not just take the easy way out, although she wants to. She analyses it. She is no fool. And even before accepting the legacy, that Macey Gardella kicks a$$! She is strong, independent and motivated. I liked her a lot.

Now, about the guy, he was hot. Macey's and Grady's chemistry is soooo cool!
Love scene was beautiful, sexy and detailed. But, even though, this character was good, I could not connect with him. Maybe because I know all other male characters from previous books and he is the "new guy in town"....

And, this was a surprise... Chas is there! How? Why? There is no explanation about that in this book (damn, when is the next one ready?). But let me tell you, I loved Vampire Narcise. That book was the best from that trilogy. And I was devastated about all that happened with Chas. Good to see he is here. And, hopefully, he can have a HEA this time. PLEASE!!! During the whole book, I wanted to save Chas. He does not show the greatest personality, he pushes people away, he is tormented and cold. He reminds me a bit of Pesaro. But could anyone top Max Pesaro? Hottest cold guy ever!

For the ones, who have read the first series, you will find a more mature, older and responsible Sebastian. He is still adorable, a bit playful and sexy-beyond-words but he also shows a more serious side, a side that has evolved after living as a vampire-Venator for one century. He suffers and I felt his pain.

There are other things that also will need explanation in the future, like this book about vampires which was written by G. S. He was a bad guy in the old series. I wonder why he wrote it. Also, I wonder if we are going to have a love triangle. In the first Gardella, the love triangle began in book 3, but it was easy to see it coming already in book 1. But now, I do not see any love triangle possibilities.

Great twist near the end. I didn't see that one coming. What is Macey going to do now? How is she going to get out of that one? I am really looking forward the next book!!!!!!

Don't have to be a Gardella fan to love it.

I happen to be a Gardella fan from the first set of books, but you don't have to be to enjoy this one, set in a different time, with different characters. (except for the returning ones - and oh, it's fun to see them again)

Can't wait for more of Macey's story!

Great time period for Gardella the next generation (actually next-next-next generation)

Gleason does a fast forward to the roaring 20's for her new Gardella Chronicles spin off picking up the fight in prohibition era Chicago as Macy Denton, the great-great-great granddaughter of Victoria, has her eyes opened to the existence of vampires and receives her "Call" to become a Venator.

Gleason has written this story so that it isn't necessary to have read the five books of the previous series, but I like being in the 'know' and like getting a chance to see Sebastian Vioget again. As to the next generation of Gardellas, Macey is a likable, strong and independent woman of her time and shows promise in the leading lady department. I also really like her love interest the intrepid 'Newshawk' Grady (and his lovely Irish lilt.) Although, considering the body count of those around Macey, I have to hope that he finds a way to avoid Victoria's husband's fate. Also interesting, but not terribly likable yet, is fellow venator Chas, who apparently has played a role in Gleason's Regency Draculia Trilogy vampire series (The Vampire Dimitri /Voss /Narcise) and brings some baggage from those books along with him - though we've only gotten a glimpse of his 'issues' so far and not the reason behind them.

So once this got rolling I liked the characters, and the time period - and the surprising role of Al Capone in the action. The story did end a bit abruptly but I am definitely looking for more of the adventures of Macey.

Interesting and insigthful, way, way ahead of his time

The book is difficult to read. Never having been truly "edited", these pages came from a 17 year old boy who was engaged in what presumably was "autowriting". Phylos the Tibetan, was the source of the material, Frederick Spencer Oliver wrote these pages around the year of 1884. Many of his writings include early advanced civilizations, and their technology. Items such as Television were mentioned, though not by that name. The lad was truly prescient about many things. The writing style is at times what could best be described as a "shuffling gait". However, if you can get past the first hundred pages, it really does get better. The book really has 2 parts to it. It is the second part that REALLY stands out. Mysticism and the metaphysical are handled deftly. How a 17 year old boy living in the rough and rugged regions of Norther California came to such knowledge is striking in itself. Another reviewer, Linda Fournier gives this book very poor ratings, she is my cousin, and like her Frederick Spencer Oliver is my Great-Grandfather. He died at the age of 33 in 1899. Sure would have liked to have met him.

Important work which details Christian esoterism

I have studied this book since 1975, and have gained much understanding about esoteric Christian precepts as a result.
There are numerous technological descriptions which only hint at the extreme level of achievement during the Atlantean period. It took me some time to fall for the book, but it has held up to disputation on just about every level.
If the book were not true, it is an entertaining read, but I strongly suspect that the moral lessons the author is attempting to impart have considerable substance and import.
There is considerable weight of evidence, from sources outside the occult communities, which lends credibility to this book. It is not for everyone (yet).

Redundant...It should say it is a guide to Dragon Herb formulas...

OK...I read MANY of the review of this and prior versions of this book, and thought, based on those reviews, that this would be a great place for me to finally get TCM under by belt. Well, SOME of that assertion is true. It was incredibly redundant. I think the book could be 50% smaller with better editing. This book is pretty pricey to be primarily a catalog of Dragon Herb products.

Example: he would mention when talking about his specific formulas that that specific herb was covered in a particular chapter, name the chapter, then start telling you about that herb AGAIN. This happened over and over and over. It left out what the Jenon formulas are, and mentioned a skin care line with ginseng stem cells that isn't on his site, nor does it show up in the search engines.

Has it helped me to decide what Dragon Herbs product I might try? Yes, that it did. That is what saved it from being a 2 Star review. However, this book relates only the very basics of TCM - and those were not related where they were crystal clear to me. So, I will be looking for something to really fill in the puzzle, something that isn't brand driven.

Interesting...that not once did he mention patent formulas by OTHER reputable brands, like Min Shin. Guess that would be defeating the purpose. This is just a start. You might look elsewhere for your first book to demystify the subject, that is unless you specifically want to learn about Dragon Herbs formulas.

Cannot make your own

Good book, clear well written, well organized, plenty of information with one big drawback:
I used Western herbs in the past, most of them I gather or grow in my garden. However I cannot do this using the book.
First the formulas are very complicated with a lot of herbs involved, aren't there simpler formulas with less ingredients (the countryfolks may have used simplified versions)?
Some herbs need preparation, the book does not give recipes how to prepare them.
The formulas mentioned come without quantities so anyway you cannot mix them your own.
Is Chinese medicine nothing for laypersons?
However there is a lengthy description on how to make a decoction - I have got basic kitchen knowledge.
But overall this is still a decent book and I don't regret having it in my bookshelf.

I bought this book because I had seen a free video of Ron Teeguarden online at a conference put on by David Wolfe. I was highly impressed with Ron. He's had training in herbalism (and other subjects such as meditation and breathing exercises, which are not discussed in this book) from a number of Asian teachers, including Daoist Master Sung Jin Park. I hadn't realized it, but the traditional teachings is that certain of the "premier" Chinese herbs can have profound vitalizing effects, and can retard aging. The book gives an overview of the traditional Chinese teaching about jing (physical reserves of the body), chi (energy), and shen (the "light" of consciousness) which I had heard from an acupuncturist but didn't know much about. Certain herbs, when consumed, have the ability to increase one or more these if they have been depleted, or maintain them. Some herbs have a "bidirectional" effect on various physical conditions, i.e., lowering blood pressure if it is high, and raising it if it is low. I enjoyed reading this book.

His book has the recommendation of three Chinese Ph.D.s, two of whom are or were professors at China Pharmaceutical University, and have a string of other academic credentials, and a president (probably former president by now - the book was written in 1998).

Monkou kicks off The Revelers series with, CARNIVAL TEMPTRESS, an intriguing novella with ample doses of humor, erotically charged scenes, danger, and festivities. The cold rainy day will not be the only thing to dampen Micha Lindsay's spirit. Reorganization at work eliminates her job, her car is burglarized, and her long-distance boyfriend unexpectedly leaves early with a "punk move" have Micha hosting her own pity party. With caring encouragement from her close-knit sister-friends, Micha decides to join them on a trip to Trinidad for the Carnival celebration. After all a little revelry will work wonders for her spirit, and it is not the tropical heat that has a body sizzling but the handsomely macho Amar Jaikaran.

Strait-laced businessman Amar Jaikaran should have known his flighty bandleader sister, Asha, would bring her posse to Trinidad to wreck havoc on his life. What he is not prepared for is Micha, as the attractive curvaceous sexy beauty is sending electric bolts through his body. And he really does not have time for silly distractions. Besides pressing business concerns occupy his mind, and his heart is grieving from painful Carnival memories. That is until he has an unexpected pleasurable voyeurism experience.

With a little help from her friends, Micha plans out her seduction game. But take-charge Amar has plans of his own much to Micha's delight. Unfortunately, others are not as pleased with Amar's business decisions, and decide to step up the ante involving those dearest to him.

Monkou creates characters you can't help liking and being invested in. The sexual tension between the hero and heroine is evident from the beginning, and reader will be rewarded with sizzling erotic loves scenes. The relationship between the four lady friends is pure delight, and all deserve their own story. The twists and turns in the business dealings add elements of suspense, though at times a little predictable, as a family secret is exposed.

If you do not know about Trinidad Carnival, the playlist of songs will have you swaying your hips, as the vivid settings, and celebration spirit pops off the pages engaging the reader in the moment.

Solid storytelling, sharp dialogue, genuine characters, a spectacular location are the strengths of CARNIVAL TEMPTRESS. The twist at the very end caught me by surprise and leaves me eager for the next book in the series.

I won't attempt a review of the content of this book. Leibniz's importance is of course well-established. (And I'm too much of a novice.)

Instead I'll try to be helpful by giving some product details that are currently missing from Amazon's page here, and apparently hard to find elsewhere online.
